BEVS at PSC | High Density Fermentation Standard Fermentation PSC's patented expresSF+® cell line is used to express proteins at a standard density of approximately 1.5x106 cells/ml. The cells are cultured in suspension in PSC - developed serum-free medium to produce high levels of protein following infection with the recombinant baculovirus. PSC optimizes the expression of each protein by manipulating and selecting the most favorable multiplicity of infection (MOI) and harvest time to ensure that the highest protein expression levels are achieved during the culture fermentation. High Density Fermentation The expresSF+® cell line has been selected to grow to high density (107-108 cells/ml depending on the fermentation process) and to be completely serum-independent during growth, virus production, gene product production and storage. Cells grow in a suspension of single cells without clumping and with doubling times of 18-20 hours. PSC has developed an experimental high density production technology that results in yields that are 4 to 10 times higher than those available at lower density. Patent applications have been filed covering the high density technology. |
